What Is Sonohysterography?
Sonohysterography is
the method of the ultrasound examination that performs the diagnostic
of the pathological processes inside the uterus, in endometrium,
myometrium, appendages and for the examination of anatomic uterine
anomalies. As a rule, the demand in such kind of examination occurs
during the infertility treatment, the determination of the uterine
bleeding reasons and the endometrial polyps and uterine myoma
diagnostics. Nowadays hysteroscopy is widely used for these purposes.
Hysteroscopy is the
method of visual diagnostic of the uterine cavity with the help of
special flexible equipment. This method has enough significant
advantages such as the possibility of visual examination of the
intrauterine formations and performance of many manipulations like
biopsy or polyp or adhesions removal. There is also such method of
the intrauterine diagnostic as hysterography. It is performed with
the help of X-rays. Its disadvantages are that the received image is
static and it brings out the unwanted radiation.
The advantages of
sonohysterography are:
- It can be performed in the way of rather transvaginal or abdominal USD examination, both are possible.
- It is not less effective than hysteroscory as the diagnostic method.
- Sonohysterogram gives possibility to examine the state of the uterine walls, to diagnose the endometrium changes and to rate the vessel structures of the polyp.
- This method does not require narcosis.
- The price of sonohysterography is significantly lower than of hysteroscopy.
- This type of diagnostics can be performed together with the examination of uterine tubes patency – hydroechotubation.
The procedure
should be performed in the middle of the menstrual period to receive
the true data without any discomfort in the process. Before it the
patient must undergo STD testing and have no cervicitis.
