Stye On Your Eye

A stye is a swell on the eyelid that is usually caused by the infection of one or several eyelashes’ follicles. It can occur either on the external or internal surface of the eyelid. Officially this disease is called gordeolum.  Its main symptoms are reddening, swell and pain. An eye can be tearful or there can occur the feeling of some foreign body inside. If the stye has external location, you can see a yellow ulcer near the eyelid edge. It feels warm or painful while touching. If it is internal, the hotbed looks like reddening with a yellow stain in the center. It can be seen only if the eyelid is inverted. The skin around swell is visually inflamed. Internal stye is developing slower and brings more pain than external.

This ete disease is quite widely spread; almost everyone had it at least once. Some people can have it once or twice, some suffer very often. If stye occurs regularly, it will be better to be examined, for it can warn about some chronic disease. Usually there is only one stye, but there can be several in one time.

The most common reason of stye’s appearance is staphylococcus. The infection performs through the harmless bacterium that lives on our skin and nasal mucosa. It can cause infection if enters through little openings in skin or on the eyelid edge. A stye can develop into blepharitis.

Many people treat stye at home with the help of warm compresses. It may be helpful sometimes, but like any disease it cannot go without control of the eye doctor. Any dirt brought into the infected spot may worsen the disease and cause complications. But what to do if nothing helps to treat stye?

If the stye is big enough and no doctor’s appointments helped, the stye surgery is required. Doctor may use a needle or make a little cut to let the pus go out of the stye. Sometimes he may propose you to remove the eyelash if the tissues around it are inflamed. Remember that all these manipulations must be performed by high-qualified specialists.
